Community Sports & Wellness was the host of the 23rd Annual North South
Senior All-Star Tennis Cup matches Sunday, June 13. Twenty graduating seniors
competed in this event that is organized by the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports
Association under co-chairs Sharon Rosenburgh and
Debby Burton.
The North team
captured each of the three rounds of play in securing a 28-19
victory.
The victorious North
squad, coached by Brad Haeck (Plymouth) and Matt DeVault (Alexandria), consisted of Erika Becker-Avon, Reiley Hiser and Gracyn Hosier - Alexandria, Hana
Anderson-Covenant Christian, Ellen Gardner-Guerin Catholic, 2nd Team
All-State Lydia Rugsegger(Injured)-Mt. Vernon, 1st
Team All-State Jordyn Pax-Plainfield, Miranda
German-Plymouth, Julia Gabennesch-Westfield, Hallie
Mast-Westview.
Becker, Gardner, and Gabennesch went undefeated in their three matches to lead
the North’s conquest.
The South All Stars were
coached by Mike Gillespie (Whiteland) and Rusty Hughes (Franklin Community) and
consisted of All-State 1st team Ashlee Fisk- Center Grove, 2nd Team All-state
doubles team of Sapna Vyas / Sydney Plowman - Center
Grove, and Sonya Vyas -Center Grove, Carly Sobieralski
and Devin Cooney - Franklin Central, 2nd Team All-State Haylie Rayl - Franklin Community, Maely
Barrett - Mooresville, and Sarah Scott - Whiteland.
Barrett was the lone
undefeated South player on the day.
Of the 20 contestants,
17 were honored as 1st team, 2nd team, or Honorable Mention All
State by the Indiana HS Tennis Coaches Association, which selected
the All-State Teams on Saturday in Indianapolis.
