On Sunday, June 10th, the 9th Annual North/South Senior All-Star Tennis Cup was held at Five Seasons Racquet Club in Indianapolis. The tournament, sponsored by the ICGSA(Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association) featured standout players from across the state in both singles and doubles. The North defeated the South 13.5 - 12.5 Playing for the North team were Sara McNelis(Bishop Chatard), Courtney O'Brien(Bishop Chatard), Kristen Metzger(Bishop Chatard), Sarah Hammeran(Carmel), Jennifer Graham(Cathedral), Anne Baumer(Centerville), Kristin Crider(Delta), Carissa Wilkins(Jay County), Dana Reynolds(Lebanon), Stacey Koontz(Mississinewa), Casey Koontz(Mississinewa). The players for the South were Laura Wyman(Center Grove), Maddie Riffle(Center Grove), Michelle Girgenti(Center Grove), Lauren Delaney(Franklin Central), Kelsey Septoski(Franklin Central), Ashley Muston(Franklin Central), Allison Oberle(Mt. Vernon Senior), Emily Wilson(Paoli), Kylie Amick(Scottsburg), Jodie Petty(Scottsburg), Alyssa Richard(Shawe Memorial).
At the conclusion of the match, an awards ceremony honored the players.
Also, the ICGSA Tennis Scholarship was awarded to Sarah Hammeran of Carmel High School. The ICGSA is proud to offer this award to encourage young women to offer leadership beyond the tennis court.
It was a fun-packed day full of competition and new friendships, highlighted by honoring these talented athletes.
The following coaches were named District Coach of the Year: Bob Modesto(Munster H.S.-District 1), Jerry Gerig(Ft. Wayne Canterbury H.S.-District 2), Dan McNally(Bishop Chatard-District 3), Kendal Hammel (Columbus North-District 4), Tyla Wells (Paoli-District 5).
